SPHERICAL BEARINGS FOR AL BAYT STADIUM PROJECT, AL KHOR IN QATAR
FPC Italia gives its contribution to 2022
FIFA World Cup which will take place in Qatar. FPC Italia designed and
supplied in the past months the bearings for the roof of Al Bayt stadium
which is under construction in the city of Al Khor, famous for its pearl
diving and fishing located 60 kilometers north of the capital Doha.
Main contractor is Galfar-Salini Impregilo-Cimolai JV.
The stadium has the capacity of 60.000 onlookers, with a giant tent structure which covers it to remind the typical adobes of the nomadic peoples of the Country. It is considered a first-class venue, an example for the construction criteria of stadiums in the future.
FPC Italia supplied steel sliding guided spherical bearings with system suitable to bear the service uplift load of 775kN. The vertical capacity of the bearings at ULS is 5250kN while the horizontal one is 1650kN. The total possible movement is 750mm and the design of the bearings foresees the use of ISOGLIDE® special sliding material, provided with ETA certification.
The working life of bearings is 50 years and their maximum design temperature is 70°C.
Before being dispatched, the bearings were tested at our own ISOLAB laboratory in accordance with EN1337 standard.
