In the scope of an extraordinary maintenance,
the Municipality of Trieste awarded FPC ITALIA the inspection and the check
of the tension of the stays of the Bruno Bianchi swimming pool roof located
in Trieste.
No. 8 stays of which four are made up of 35 strands and four are made up
of 20 strands (unbonded strands) have been checked.
The position of the anchoring heads, at an altitude of 8 meters above the
pool and accessible only with aerial platforms, required a special kind
of work using only small size light equipment.
In the first phase of the work, we checked the load of each stay by verifying
the tension of each individual strand. The results obtained showed an almost
homogeneous distribution of forces except for some strands in which the
tensions were slightly different from the expected load, always remaining
below the safety range foreseen for the capacity of the type of strand
used.
At the end of the check, the FPC ITALIA technical office analyzed the data
collected and, in agreement with the designer, it was decided to proceed
with a calibration of all the stays by adjusting the force of the only
strands that presented a different tension than expected, not in line with
the rest of the strands.
The whole inspection was carried out by a team of six FPC ITALIA technicians,
with specific equipment owned by FPC ITALIA.
The work was successfully carried out in eight days and with great satisfaction
of the customer for the prompt reaction, the professionalism and the precision
in very short time.
