THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN CHILE IS A SYNERGY SUCCESS!
FPC ITALIA, in cooperation with FREYSSINET
CHILE, has completed in record time (just 3 and a half months), the supply
of 154 isolators type LRB for the new building of the provincial Hospital
of Curicó. Since the previous awarded supplier was not able to overcome
the severe tests required by the designer’s technical specifications and
the Chilean standard, Freyssinet was requested by the customer to intervene
urgently to replace them.
The project consists in the construction of a new hospital in the complex
which will be the largest hospital center of the Maule region. The new
hospital is provided with 12 surgical pavilions and a capacity of 400 beds,
on an area of 102,930 m2 spread over 9 floors. It will have
a parking space for 800 cars and a heliport for emergency transfers within
the national network.
The construction company OHL OBRASCÓN HUARTE LAIN, S.A. CHILE has been
appointed by the Ministry, to rebuild the hospital after the earthquake
of 2010, because of severe damages.
The isolators ISOSISM® LRB, with a diameter of 750 mm, have
been designed by FPC ITALIA Technical Dept. according to the Chilean standard
NCh 2745 and Project Specifications and produced at FPC RUBBER plant in
Italy.
The maximum vertical load capacity is 9.250 kN and the horizontal displacement
+/-300 mm.
The Designer acceptance criteria were very tight and more demanding than
the usual international Standard. The acceptable variation for horizontal
stiffness and damping over the 100% of production was only ±5% from benchmark
values.
Such result was reached thanks to the preliminary internal pre-tests to
calibrate the design and the costant rubber quality controls carried out
at FPC RUBBER material testing laboratory.
The production and control tests have been successfully performed on all
the isolators, at our own ISOLAB laboratory, while the qualification tests
have been carried out at the external laboratory with the presence of client,
SGS inspector and designer’s representatives.
SGS third party inspector also witnessed 20% of the 152 Factory Production
Control tests carried out at ISOLAB.
The synergy among FPC ITALIA, FPC RUBBER and FREYSSINET CHILE has successfully
lead to a such demanding project in terms of delivery times and quality.
