FPC ITALIA, in cooperation with Freyssinet
UK, completed the supply of the shock transmitter ISOSISM type STU for
the retrofitting of the old existing iron rail bridge crossing Don river
located in Scotland.
The Don river bridge is part of the Aberdeen-Inverness improvement project
carried out by the company BAM Nuttal for the Network Rail. The aim of
the Scottish government is to increase the frequency of trains and shorten
times between these two northern cities.
In particular, part of the project is to double the track of a 16-mile
section of line between Aberdeen and Inverurie, which includes the bridge
over Don river.
FPC ITALIA technical dept. taylor-made designed the no. 16 STU having a
capacity from 550 up to 1550 kN, to fit the existing space restrictions
on site. The devices have been installed at deck level to connect together
the several bridge spans.
One of the strict project requirement was to provide an environment-friendly
product.
STU have been designed and successfully tested according to EN15129 and
provided with CE certification.
